Rube's Steaks: The Original "Grill Your Own" Rube's Steakhouse is a unique place with an even more unique story behind it. Starting from a small restaurant,we have grown to become a nationwide provider of steaks. In 1973 Glen "Rube" Rubenbauer opened a tavern in the small town of Montour, Iowa. Always looking for something new, Rube started serving steaks and then hit on the idea of letting customers grill their own. Soon people were traveling from near and far to grill Rube's hand cut premium steaks. People came not only to eat, but to take these special steaks home for friends and family to enjoy. Rube's has two steakhouses in Iowa with a large varied menu. We have been awarded for our unique environment and high quality food. Since 1992, Rube's Meat Company has been shipping the same great steaks we serve in our Steakhouse to customers across our great nation. Shipped fresh, never frozen, right to your door. On the Road with Rube's Steaks RAGBRAI RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa), is an annual bicycle ride across the state of Iowa that requires lots of support for the participants and spectators. Rube’s Steaks can be seen catering the stage stop in Des Moines, here in 2006, where great crowds came to enjoy the spectacle and catch sight of celebrities such as Lance Armstrong.
